Below, the Care Control team has written a short post that explores what Carers Week is all about, and how you can get involved if you’d like to.

What is Carers Week?
Carers Week is an annual campaign that is about highlighting the difficulties and challenges unpaid carers have to face, as well as recognising their contribution to families and communities. It’s about recognising anyone who has looked after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction, or who needs additional support as they grow older. Carers Week also gives those who care access to support and information, to help make it a little bit easier.
What’s This Year’s Theme?
The theme for Carers Week 2022 is ‘make caring visible, valued and supported’. There is a particular focus on recognising unpaid carers in all areas of life, and an appreciation of carers for all that they do for those who need extra support. Every day of Carers Week, there will be a unique focus. For example, Monday will look at health and social care issues affecting carers, whilst Thursday will focus on younger carers and Saturday will explore Mental Health and Wellbeing.

How Can Care Services Help?
Care services can play an important role to help give unpaid carers a break from their care duties, as well as give them proper support in managing their care. There are many different ways that care services can help support carers. These include giving advice, information, and support services to carers, and actively involving unpaid carers in decisions about the care package and support being provided to their loved one.
